Meeting unique hospitality security needs in New England

Hospitality Security | Shield Hotels Group

Challenge: Balancing the needs of the hotel’s transitional guests with the safety and comfort of the paying guests.

A part of the Shield Group, The Howard Johnson in Holyoke, MA participates in a state-run program providing immediate housing for at risk populations. As the program expanded this situation became unmanageable for the hotel staff and assistance was sought from Securitas.

  • Round the clock coverage from Securitas officers provided a deterrent. The officers’ training has helped them diffuse tense situations and personality conflicts.
  • Access Control was significantly tightened when cameras were added and monitored on-site.
  • SecuritasConnect tablets help document patrols and record incidents. Hotel staff receive alerts of potential issues, and can change post orders as needed.

Calls to local law enforcement have decreased as the Securitas officers are able to address issues in-house. The officers help document problems during patrols, this both keeps the program compliant and creates a paper trail if state assistance is required.
