Ron Rolson: Security Officer of the Year, Performance
This award recognizes a security officer who has consistently provided excellent service and outstanding performance. This year’s award winner is Ron Rolston, who joined Securitas Canada in December 1989 and works from the Cambridge, Ontario branch office. He started as a security officer and then moved into the role of Fire Prevention Inspector (FPI) in 1992. He’s been at the same client site for 30 years due to his exemplary performance in every aspect of his role.
During his tenure at Toyota Canada, Rolston has been involved in various construction and demolition projects where he advised on all fire prevention activities. According to District Manager Chris Scholes, “Ron has an unwavering commitment to training, development and mentoring the new generation of FPIs to success. In addition, he goes above and beyond in his duties to not only increase the efficiency and knowledge of the Securitas Canada team at the site, but also to develop the contributions that Securitas Canada bring to the client.”
When told about the award, Rolston commented, “When I read the nomination, it was awesome. Then when I won, I couldn’t believe I had won the award for all of North America. I was just doing my job.” When we asked about his longevity at Securitas Canada and working at this client site, Rolston said, “As a Securitas Fire Prevention Inspector working at the Toyota Plant in Cambridge and Woodstock, I have committed myself to safety, endeavoring to make it a better place to work. Sharing my knowledge with our team and the client in regard to fire prevention has been my passion over the years. I am honored that I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of 30 years of fire safety here at Toyota.”
Rolston is always eager to continually enhance his skill set and, in recognition of his contributions to fire prevention, he was selected in 2019 to represent the client at the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) Conference and Expo in San Antonio, TX. There he attended workshops and training to further his knowledge and skills, and has used that knowledge to contribute to the development of policies and procedures at the client site to enhance fire and life safety. Recently Rolston used his knowledge, experience and training to develop a training package for “Hot Work” to show how to effectively assess and mitigate risks to create a safer working environment for all site employees and contractors. Some of his policies, procedures and tools can be used at client sites throughout North America to understand life and fire safety.
“Ron is a beacon of enthusiasm within the workplace and is recognized by contractors of various trades as the subject matter expert for all things fire prevention-related,” said Scholes. “His attitude at work significantly contributes to a positive team atmosphere, and he demonstrates his skills in leadership when he conducts his training sessions.”
When we asked Securitas Canada President John Campbell to say a few words about Rolston, he replied, “Securitas Canada is pleased that Ron Rolston is this year’s North American recipient of this prestigious company honor. I’m impressed that Ron, in addition to sustaining top performance at Toyota for so many decades, took the initiative to complete other projects that contributed a great deal to our client and to Securitas. Ron’s remarkable and long performance sets an example for a successful career in security, and that is why it is so important we take the time to say, ‘Thank you, Ron!’ Your efforts and dedication have been recognized by everyone, and it’s people like you that help retain our clients, and keeps our business strong and growing.”
