Security, Meet Humanity: the story of Officer Agustin Avila

The debut episode of the new video series, "Security Meet Humanity", highlights Officer Agustin Avila, whose vigilance and decisive action helped prevent a drowning incident at a client's property

Security is often seen as a presence, a uniform, a post, a watchful eye. But in reality, the job demands far more. It requires judgment. Awareness. And in critical moments, the ability to act with both speed and compassion.

That’s the idea behind Security, Meet Humanity, a new Securitas USA series focused on the people behind the uniform and the moments that define what it truly means to protect. The first story begins with Officer Agustin Avila.

For Agustin, security has never been about simply standing guard. It’s about responsibility to the people, families, and communities he serves every day.

“Security isn’t just about being present,” he explains. “It’s about being human.”

That mindset shapes how he approaches every shift. Because while many aspects of the job go unnoticed, the decisions officers make in a second can have a lasting impact.

    A moment that changed everything

During a routine shift at a residential community, Agustin responded to a door alarm, something that, more often than not, turns out to be a false alert.

Still, he checked. What he found was anything but routine. A young child had wandered into a pool area and fallen into the water. Agustin jumped in, fully clothed and in uniform, and pulled the child to safety.

In that moment, training mattered. Instinct mattered. But most of all, the decision to act immediately made the difference.

Agustin’s story highlights something often overlooked in the profession: vigilance isn’t always passive. It’s active. It’s a constant readiness to assess, decide, and respond even when the situation is uncertain.

“On these kinds of emergencies, you think about everything,” he says. “So you have to act in the moment.”

It’s a reminder that the role of a security officer extends far beyond observation. It’s about stepping in when it matters most.

    Where humanity meets duty

For Agustin, the experience reinforced a belief he has carried throughout his career, that security and humanity are inseparable. “It is very important to have humanity with security, because they have to go hand in hand,” he explains.

Without that human element, empathy, care, and awareness, the technical aspects of security fall short. This balance allows officers not only to respond to incidents but also to help prevent them.

    A profession built on purpose

Despite the challenges of the job, Agustin takes pride in what he does. Not for recognition but for the role he plays in helping keeping people safe.

Every day, security officers operate in the background, often unseen, making decisions that protect others without ever being acknowledged. Stories like this bring those moments into focus.

They remind us that behind every uniform is a person, someone trained, prepared, and committed to the safety of others.

    Changing the narrative

Security, Meet Humanity was created to shift how people view the profession. Because security isn’t just about monitoring or enforcement. It’s about people.

It’s about presence when it matters most. And action when it matters even more.

Agustin Avila’s story is just one example, but it reflects something much bigger: A profession built on trust, responsibility, and the human instinct to protect.
