Common industry challenges
The pressures shaping manufacturing security
Manufacturing facilities are exposed to a broad range of security threats – and many of them are constantly evolving. The right manufacturing security solution mitigates those threats with tailored, proactive services and specialized support.
-
Huge facilities with multiple access points, large workforces, and high-value inventory create significant exposure. Threats may come from external actors or insiders, requiring trained manufacturing security officers who can monitor for them without disrupting production.
-
Global manufacturing operations are increasingly exposed to geopolitical risks. Companies with international footprints or supplier networks need security programs that can proactively anticipate threats and mitigate them.
-
Many manufacturers – particularly those in pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing – conduct highly sensitive research and development on-site. Access control, hazardous material response, and chemical security compliance help protect both the people inside the facilities and the intellectual property they're working to develop.
-
Security officers are an integral part of a manufacturing site’s EHS program, monitoring for unsafe acts on the floor, flagging potentially hazardous conditions, and handling incident reporting.
-
In highly regulated industries such as food and beverage, security is a key component of compliance and product safety. Manufacturing security officers complete specialized food safety training and carry food defense certifications to help ensure the facility meets global standards.
-
How we can help you
Security that works the way manufacturers do
We work directly with plant managers and corporate security teams, giving manufacturers flexibility in how they structure and manage their security program.
-
Certified manufacturing security officers
Our security officers complete specialized training designed to address the unique demands of manufacturing facilities across sectors – from pharmaceutical to heavy machinery and consumer goods. On the floor and at the gate, they monitor for safety hazards, manage access points, and support emergency response – trained to function as an integrated part of your facility.
-
Proactive risk intelligence
Geopolitical shifts, supply chain disruptions, and emerging threats can move fast. Our risk intelligence services help manufacturers anticipate and mitigate threats before they escalate, integrating data- and tech-driven insights with expert analysis to provide accurate, timely, relevant, and actionable intelligence.
-
Remote guarding and mobile patrol
Not every area of a manufacturing facility requires the same level of coverage. Remote guarding and mobile patrol give manufacturers the flexibility to deploy the right resources in the right place – optimizing their security solution while managing costs across the site.
-
Access control and employee screening
Manufacturing facilities can employ hundreds of people across multiple shifts, making screening and access control critical. Inbound employee screening focuses on weapons detection and workplace safety, while outbound screening helps protect against theft and loss of materials, equipment, or finished goods.
-
Global and scalable coverage
For manufacturers operating across multiple sites or internationally, program consistency is as important as local execution. Our presence across 44+ global markets means we have the expertise and resources to support your facilities outside of North America.

Securitas brings decades of experience supporting manufacturers. We collaborate with your security and EHS teams to assess facility risks, review operating procedures, and align our services with your needs. Our teams regularly support clients in meeting regulatory obligations, including CFATS, C-TPAT, OSHA, and FDA requirements. Additionally, you can read more about how we support logistics operations here.
Through security audits, operational analysis, and ongoing risk intelligence, we help identify internal and external exposures while providing relevant, timely, and actionable insights to inform your decision-making. -
Manufacturing security officers serve as a consistent, trained presence across some of the most complex facility environments in the industry. Inside the facility, they conduct interior patrols, monitor for unsafe acts and hazardous conditions, support emergency response protocols, and work alongside your EHS team on incident reporting and safety compliance. At access points and in logistics environments, they manage truck traffic, verify credentials and bills of lading, inspect cargo seals, and oversee employee and visitor screening. Each security officer goes through an eight-step selection and hiring process before joining Securitas. Officers assigned to manufacturing facilities then complete specialized curriculum – delivered through eight hours of interactive training – covering OSHA compliance and PPE management, food safety defense, Good Manufacturing practices (GMP), C-TPAT and CFATS requirements, Chemical-Terrorism Vulnerability Information (CVI), MTSA/TWIC, emergency and hazardous material response, truck driver access control, gate operations, cargo seal and container inspection, fire and life safety, and work stoppage procedures.
The curriculum also addresses industry-specific insider threats and helps prepare officers for the full range of responsibilities they’ll have on-site – from visitor and access management to compliance-driven inspections. -
Geopolitical unrest, supply chain disruptions, economic pressures, and regional security risks can all affect your people, production, and bottom line. For certain sectors, such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, activist activity and organized protests can pose a direct risk to facilities and the people inside them. Our risk intelligence services help manufacturers maintain awareness of these and other emerging threats, criminal activity near their facilities, and regulatory developments – giving your security and leadership teams the timely, actionable insight they need to make informed decisions before a situation escalates.
-
Working directly with a manufacturing security partner means your program gets dedicated focus from a team whose only objective is the safety and security of your facility. Communication flows directly between your team and ours, giving you greater visibility into what's happening on-site and leading to faster resolution when issues arise. Importantly, your risk profile stays contained to the people who need to know – a key consideration for manufacturing companies, particularly those handling sensitive materials and proprietary research and development.
Especially for manufacturers managing multiple sites or navigating complex compliance requirements, a direct security partnership can make an invaluable difference in program effectiveness and long-term value. Direct security enables a strategic partnership in which your security team understands your facility, people, and needs at every level. -
Yes – and we'd encourage manufacturers to think about security well before the plant opens. Construction sites are vulnerable to theft of materials and equipment, unauthorized access, and vandalism, and a new facility represents a significant capital investment worth protecting from the start. Securitas can provide temporary security services during the construction phase, securing the site before a permanent program is in place. As the facility moves toward opening, we work with your team to design and transition into a long-term security program – so by the time production begins, your security team is already there.
-
Securitas operates from more than 275 local offices across North America. In fast-moving manufacturing operations, that proximity supports quicker coverage, faster issue resolution, and direct communication when incidents occur.
-
With more than 530 district managers, Securitas maintains strong local leadership across North America, which means if there’s an operational issue, local managers can help address it quickly. That structure supports continuity and accountability in environments where reliable coverage is essential.
-
Reporting safety incidents is a shared responsibility across our entire on-site team. Manufacturing security officers, supervisors, and on-site managers are all required to learn how to report safety incidents. Using dedicated technology platforms or devices, officers can report incidents in real time, helping to ensure that any issues are documented and addressed promptly. Those reports feed directly into the activity reporting we share with client stakeholders, supporting the incident reporting protocols your EHS team already has in place.
-
Ensuring the performance of our manufacturing security officers starts with clear, detailed role duties that cover all responsibilities and specific procedures. From there, we use a combination of training, supervision, and ongoing feedback to help ensure those standards are maintained around the clock. Digital reporting tools help with patrol tour verification (using GPS or NFC to confirm their location), task scheduling, incident reporting and management, and post order management.
Supervisors also conduct regular audits and surprise inspections, and we hold periodic performance reviews to assess each officer's adherence to their duties and address any gaps. Officers are expected to flag issues as they arise – that feedback loop is part of how we strive to maintain accountability on every shift, not just during business hours. -
Yes. Our membership reflects the same commitment to safety, compliance, and accountability that we bring to every client site.
