Specialized training makes the difference at Securitas

Learn how specialized training and development programs, including ASIS-certified courses, prepare Securitas security officers to excel in highly complex industries.

Security needs are changing, and so are the expectations for the professionals who help protect people, businesses, and critical environments – particularly those in highly complex industries.

To help meet those evolving demands, Securitas continues to invest in the people behind the protection, offering specialized training and development opportunities that build industry expertise and support long-term career growth.

As part of that commitment, we’re proud to be recognized as an ASIS Preferred CPE Provider. This designation recognizes that the following specialized training programs – in addition to our security operations center (SOC) courses and leadership development program – are pre-approved for continuing professional education (CPE) credits:

    • Data Center Specialized Training
    • Retail Specialized Training
    • Pharmaceutical Specialized Training
    • Manufacturing Specialized Training
    • Logistics Specialized Training
    • Financial Services Specialized Training

“Being recognized as an ASIS Preferred CPE Provider validates the quality of our training programs and our commitment to professional excellence,” says Misty Savage, vice president of training and development at Securitas. “It demonstrates that we’re investing in the continued growth of our officers while reinforcing the high standards that clients expect from Securitas.”

Securitas’ training programs offer security professionals the opportunity to deepen their expertise while simultaneously working toward recertification. The courses are designed to help officers build industry-specific knowledge that they can apply from day one on-site.

For those enrolled in the data center training course, for example, they’ll learn about the types of data centers and the critical role of maintaining uptime and monitoring the facilities’ power, fuel, and cooling systems. For those in the manufacturing and logistics courses, they’ll learn about compliance rules and regulations, inbound and outbound procedures, and inspection requirements, among other important lessons.

Just as each industry has its own distinct challenges, risks, and security threats, each Securitas training course provides a tailored introduction to those environments and how to navigate them effectively.

Building specialized expertise across other industries

In addition to the ASIS-certified industry courses, Securitas offers a Healthcare Academy program specially designed for healthcare security officers. The academy – which is transitioning to an eLearning course later this year – is about six hours of self-paced training on key topics that help security professionals work calmly, confidently, and safely within clinical settings.

Covered topics include HIPAA and EMTALA compliance, OSHA safety standards, Sentinel Event awareness, HCAHPS impact, customer service techniques, wayfinding support, elopement response protocols, and infection prevention practices. Healthcare security officers learn how to respond to disturbances, de-escalate conflicts, and assist clinical teams during high-risk situations, including behavioral health crises and emergency department incidents.

Securitas is developing other specialized training programs to be rolled out before the end of the year, including courses for higher education and campus security, construction security, commercial real estate security, critical infrastructure security, HOA security, and more. Each will be designed to help officers develop the skills and knowledge needed to serve clients and communities in the respective industries.

This commitment to training is one of the many reasons clients choose Securitas. Bill Powers, director of operations at Clark Art Institute, says training is one of the biggest differences he’s seen since moving from a competitor to Securitas. At the Clark, every officer completes Securitas training, additional cultural property protection training, and regular scenario-based exercises. Officers even meet with curators before major exhibits so they can speak with visitors.

    Expanding access to learning opportunities

Securitas’ investment in employee development extends beyond job-specific training. We also proudly provide opportunities for employees to pursue broader educational and career growth goals.

The SecureU Education Benefit Program powered by Guild provides eligible employees, including frontline officers and administrative professionals, with tuition-free education, diverse learning pathways, and career development opportunities that help foster growth.

With more than 300,000 employees worldwide, Securitas continues to focus on creating an environment where our people have the support, recognition, and opportunities they need throughout their careers.

"Access to education and opportunity is the best way to empower our people,” Misty says. “Investing in their growth and success is how we strengthen the service we provide our clients and raise the bar for the entire industry.”
