PARSIPPANY, N.J. — The recipients are chosen from among nominations received from their colleagues and managers. In addition to monetary consideration as well as other recognition, the two officers are featured in Excellence in Service, a magazine published for Securitas security officers, in acknowledgement of being selected as Officers of the Year.
Securitas North America has recognized two security officers with its annual Security Officer of the Year awards, honoring Jason Boland for heroism and David Batre for outstanding performance.
The awards recognize security officers who demonstrate exceptional service in their daily work, whether responding to an emergency, supporting a client through a difficult situation, or stepping up to help their teams when circumstances require more.
Security Officer Jason Boland is this year’s recipient of the Security Officer of the Year for Heroism, which is presented to a security officer who demonstrates exceptional courage, professionalism and self-sacrifice while helping to protect people or property.
Boland is a Site Lead who responded to a life-threatening medical emergency after a woman approached him to report that her husband, a client employee, was attempting suicide in the company parking lot. Recognizing the urgency, Boland immediately directed a client employee to contact emergency services, then went to the parking area with the client’s HR Director.
When they located the vehicle, Boland saw that the individual had suffered a severe wrist injury, was experiencing rapid blood loss, and appeared close to losing consciousness. He quickly assessed the situation, entered the unlocked vehicle, and used his Securitas uniform shirt to create an improvised tourniquet to help control the bleeding.
While providing immediate care, Boland also coordinated the emergency response, directing the HR Manager to maintain pressure on the wound, opening property gates to help emergency personnel reach the scene, confirming that paramedics were en route, and positioning himself to help guide police and ambulance personnel directly to the vehicle.
His quick thinking and application of his training helped the individual receive critical medical attention in time and earned recognition from both the client and Securitas, including multiple commendations, a recognition ceremony and formal acknowledgment from district and regional leadership. The nomination also highlights Boland’s many years of dedicated service and the reputation he has built with the client through his professionalism and reliability.
In addition to recognizing heroism, Securitas acknowledges an individual who distinguishes themselves through consistently excellent service and outstanding performance. The recipient of Security Officer of the Year for Performance is David Batre for his leadership and commitment to his client and team during a major critical incident.
Following a tragic explosion that resulted in the deaths of three police officers at a police training academy, Batre was responsible for leading security operations in an environment marked by heightened emotion, increased scrutiny and significant operating restrictions. With his District Manager on vacation at the time of the incident, Batre took on additional responsibility for providing direction and maintaining continuity of service.
He immediately established communication with Securitas leadership and client representatives to facilitate the timely and accurate exchange of critical information. With areas under strict lockdown and normal operating procedures disrupted, Batre coordinated communications between officers and the client while maintaining uninterrupted security coverage through all shift changes. He also remained available to support his officers and the client throughout the extended period of uncertainty, providing leadership and serving as a consistent point of contact during a highly sensitive situation.
Client feedback specifically recognized Batre’s professionalism, attention to detail, responsiveness and leadership under pressure, while his nomination reflects his commitment to supporting his team and delivering reliable service when his client needed it most.
Like so many of their fellow officers at posts across the country, Boland and Batre demonstrate the client focus and commitment to Securitas’ core values of Integrity, vigilance, and helpfulness that make them role models and earn them the respect of those they work with.
